Online learning is not the next big thing, it is the now big thing.”
Roosty Tovar
Community-based learning is learning that incorporates the community and the immediate environment into the teaching approach. It's not just about bringing a guest speaker into the classroom or sending students to volunteer; it joins the community and allows students to apply academic learning to real life experiences, creating an authentic student experience. It can be done at any educational level and is beneficial to students, the school, and the community. It wasn't until I finished this conceptualization that I realized where I was when I started this 5305 course and how much I've grown at the end. Everything has been an incredible journey, going for a walk from the innovative proposal, the detailed analysis achieved in the development of the literature review, delving into the different investigations about my chosen proposal, station rotation in the two way dual language modality, and the implementation and strategy in planning and even the contribution to teaching and the community, a reinforcement between each link originated and related, innovative, and creative, between the entire environment and well-being of the community and the camaraderie between student and Instructor.
After 10 years reincorporating and creating a new motivation for this new approach in education, coming from the belief of all the multicultural communities that live in this country, which have innate values that can and do enrich learning experiences. Within the immediate environment, there are resources and assets that can be used to provide all students with real-life, hands-on experiences that cement learning objectives as real and important skills. Working within a School District with a larger Hispanic-Latino population within its student line has allowed me to become more aware of my roots of origin and show the needs that still exist in these times of attention to families that emigrate to achieve better opportunities for their family, mainly in education, children and young people who have only known traditional or regular educational methods, but who later through blended learning developed within a program such as Two Dual Way Language breaks the paradigms of exclusion to embrace that of inclusion, This is what my Innovation Proposal is about and my contribution to the community, study and teaching for all those whose survival needs in a foreign country can limit them due to ignorance of ways and background in taking their children to school for their migratory status, in this sense, originating, planning and creating various strategies to provide the community and their families a modality of mixed, combined and technological learning.
This plan-based and blended-mode community learning modality can be found at all levels of education. It's important to engage students early so they can develop relationships that enhance their overall learning experiences, and it's meaningful to engage students as they get older because it keeps them motivated when they can see a role for themselves in the larger social context. . Because community-based learning can be done at any level, teachers can easily incorporate strategies into any curriculum. For this reason, I give myself a 95 out of 100 for EDLD 5305.
In order to be re-starting this new educational season, I had to assume my responsibilities in each and every one of the assigned activities, comply with the planned and assigned discussions in each course on time and on the appointed date, without delay, I shared feedback, participated in the different dialogues issued by the course facilitator, received tutoring from colleagues that at some point I tutored as well such as Argelia Perez Ramirez, Paola Rodriguez, and Rossmary Vera, generating a team to lead at different points of 5305. Although I am new to this modality, I was also filled with doubts and I came to feel deficient, which I managed to correct. I opted for the linear position of receiving and accepting suggestions, everything that leads me to satisfactorily comply with everything required. Now at this point I already feel stronger, with a strategy to see the same path safe as at the beginning it was not clear where to start. Another relevant point was that when responding to my colleagues, I didn’t hesitate to suggest or celebrate appropriate resources hoping it could generate a discussion at a deeper level. I have made sure in each contribution on my part to provide explanations as to why said resources are relevant and interesting to the rest of the class and this in turn provides an accurate reference. All my assignments are attached in my e-Portfolio to be reviewed and evaluated.
I conclude that I feel pleased, satisfied, and proud of everything I have learned, dusted off and updated my intellect, of my Innovation Proposal, of my established strategies, of my foray into this area of technology and its divergences, of learning a method of mixed learning, supported by blended learning.
Sincerely, thank you very much.
